As a celebration of love, an extravagant wedding with all the trimmings is the first image that comes to mind; the media coverage of these events gives the impression that most weddings are on this scale. But truth be told it is the informal wedding that reigns supreme in reality.

For most couples, the idea of spending $15,000 or more on a wedding is just not realistic. Not only is it a strain financially, it also is too complicated.

Erickson Beamons Deca-Dance

Last night, Erickson Beamon hosted its Deca-Dance Fall 2012 presentation at Milk Studios, where designers Karen Erickson and Vicki Beamon debuted not only their new jewels but also a brand-new evening dress collection (all of which was embellished with Swarovski crystals, of course). This year, the show was made to feel like a Prohibition-Era cabaret party. While models dripping in jewels and dressed in 1920s-style drop waist dresses strutted about the room (and on tabletops), dress forms displaying Erickson Beamons signature dramatic necklaces stood on the outskirts.

1) The Elizabeth Taylor Jewelry Auction at Christies

This year, the world lost a beautiful woman and humanitarian when Elizabeth Taylor passed away. Her jewelry collection went up for auction in December, and raised a record-setting $115.9 million for her AIDS Charity. I was lucky enough to attend the viewing premiere at Christies and was absolutely floored by the magnificent collection of jewelry on display. It felt like a museum exhibit, not a single womans private collection!
