When Sheree, from Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta, sought guidance in choosing the perfect diamond ring for her future son-in-law to present to her daughter, she sought out the local jewelry professionals at Palas Jewelers.

Krista Baker, owner of Atlanta-based Palas Jewelers. Sheree trusted Palas owner Krista Baker would explain cut, clarity, color, and carats to the young man. Then Krista offered a cocktail to help ease the shock of, in this case, that 5th “C” – cost - since Sheree certainly had a strong idea of what her daughter would want in the size of a ring. Yesterday a plaque was unveiled on Heddon Street, just a stones throw from our Regent Street store. After Baker Street it is the second place in London to hold a plaque dedicated to a fictional character. This ones for Ziggy Stardust: David Bowies eccentric creation; a starman fallen to earth. And most importantly, in our eyes anyway, this space invader was rather fond of Liberty Art Fabrics,

SCJA fostering a new look!

When bench jeweler Steve Foster of Hale’s Jewelers sets out to design something, he gives it his best. Steve has been named the winner of the South Carolina Jewelers Association Logo Design Contest.

Steve, 58, is a native of South Carolina and a graduate of Clemson University. He is married with one daughter. He started bench work in his family’s store, Foster’s Jewelers in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. He has been with Hale’s since 2005.

Steve was inspired by his history with the state and industry. “I felt the Association needed something simple, yet eye-catching, that would work for any application of the logo. A design that would instantly be recognizable as the South Carolina Jewelers Association,” he said.

The old logo incorporated the “J” of Jewelers of America, which needed to be removed since JA does not affiliate with any state organization any longer, but rather partners with them. The board decided to host a competition to redesign the logo as a whole rather than simply remove the J.

The South Carolina Jewelers Association’s new logo was created by Steve Foster, Hale’s Jewelers, Greenville, SC. “We appreciated all the entries and ultimately selected Steve’s design. We are starting 2012 with a new look and a new outlook,” said Chris Cervini, SCJA President.

Golden Triangle Shows are pleased to announce their expansion to the Birmingham, Alabama area. Starting this April, GTS will be able to serve the needs of Alabama and Mississippi buyers offering them multiple choices for the latest products in jewelry and accessories.

Coming to the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center April 14-16, the wholesale trade expo invites buyers from across the area to purchase for their stores and stock up for the upcoming season. The immediate delivery show allows buyers to purchase what they need when they most need it says show director Bob Siddiqui.

GTS Expos have been especially successful over the past few years because of their stress on important factors affecting jewelers and accessories retailers alike. With an emphasis on product lines that enable stores to realize higher turnovers and high margin drivers that diversify the inventory of traditional establishments, independents come to appreciate what GTS delivers. GTS touts having some of the largest importers and wholesalers in the nation for its product lines. And says Siddiqui, “they are quite excited to break into this Southern market because it is a natural base for them.”
